English Translation
Abebe's New Shoes
It was Saturday. Abebe woke up. The sun was out. That day, he wanted to go to the market. He wanted to buy new shoes. His old shoes were very worn out. There was even a hole in them. Abebe counted his money. He had enough money for shoes.
He ate his breakfast. He drank tea. Then, he left his house. He went to Merkato. Merkato was a very big market. There were many people in the market. There was a lot of noise. Sellers said, "Come! Come! We have good items!" Abebe walked among the people. He looked at many shops. He saw a clothing shop, a food shop, and a shoe shop.
He entered a small shoe shop. There was an old seller in the shop. The seller said, "How are you, my son?" Abebe said, "I am fine." He said, "I want shoes." There were many types of shoes in the shop. There were red shoes, black shoes, and white shoes. They were all placed on a shelf.
Abebe liked the black shoes. He asked the seller, "Can I try these on?" The seller said, "Yes, you can." He tried on the shoes. The shoes were very good and comfortable. He looked at himself in the mirror. They looked very good on him. He gave money to the owner. He wore his new shoes. He was very happy.
He left the shop. He walked in the city with his new shoes. He saw his friends. His friends said to him, "Your shoes are very beautiful! Where did you buy them?" Abebe said, "Thank you, they are from Merkato." He walked all day. He returned to his house. He was very tired.
He sat on a chair. He took off his shoes. He looked at the shoes. He was very surprised. One shoe was black. The other shoe was dark brown. They looked very similar. The shopkeeper made a mistake. Abebe had been wearing two different shoes. The next day, he would return to the shop. Abebe laughed at himself.
